West Bengal CID chief transferred
West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief was transferred on Wednesday following chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent announcement of a major reshuffle in the police department.
An arrest warrant order was on Saturday issued against former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh following her alleged skipping of several CID summons in connection with an extortion case at Daspur in West Midnapore. The warrant was issued by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (ACJM) court in Ghatal on a CID plea. Ms Ghosh allegedly ignored several summons issued by the CID to appear at Bhawani Bhawan for questioning in the case.
Another arrest warrant was also issued against her security guard, Sujit Mondol who also skipped the summons issued by the CID. Official sources said a team of CID officers has already left for UP on Saturday, armed with a warrant order issued by the Ghatal ACJM court to arrest the IPS officer and her security staff, Sujit Mondal.
Meanwhile, two arrested police officers, said to close to Ms Ghosh, have been remanded in the CID’s custody for six days on Saturday. They were produced before the ACJM’s court in Ghatal in West Midnapore by the CID officers. Subhankar Dey, circle inspector and Chitta Pal, sub-inspector of Ghatal police station were arrested by the CID officers on Friday for their alleged involvement in misconduct and extortion at Daspur in West Midnapore. The arrests were made in connection with a complaint lodged by a gold trader Chandan Majhi, who had accused several police officers in West Midnapore of extorting money from him when Ms Ghosh was the SP of the district.
