3 killed, 6 hurt in chem factory fire

Three persons died while six were seriously injured after a major fire broke out in a chemical factory in Haryana’s Sonipat district on Sunday.

A fire broke out in three units of a factory in Sonepat’s Rai industrial area due to short circuit, the police said. Speaking to The Statesman, Sonipat Superintendent of Police (SP) Satender Kumar Gupta said, “Three people have died while six were found critically injured in the fire that broke out early in the morning today.

All the injured were rushed to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak. A short circuit is believed to be the reason behind the fire.”

The body of one worker was pulled out while two skeletal remains have also been found, which have been sent for forensic examination. Most of the people working in the factory belonging to Uttar Pradesh, the police said.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the law against some functionaries of the chemical factory. Investigations are on, the SP said.
