About 120 examinees hailing from the district of West Burdwan, ravaged by clash between two groups, could not sit for the ongoing Higher Secondary (HS)exam due to the tension in the district, claimed SFI on Saturday.
The council has denied the charge saying that “no information” has reached them from the district.
SFI, West Bengal state committee on Saturday met senior officials of the West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Education( WBCHSE) to urge them to arrange for a second examination dates for the affected candidates.

At the same time, the West Burdwan district committee met governor Kesari Nath Tripathi as well in Asansol to brief him of the condition of these examinees.
While the governor has assured that he will speak with the education department in this regard, the council has denied such reports that more than 100 students from the districts were not able to sit for their exams.
In the absence of the council president, deputy secretary, Ashtapada Mondal received the deputation of the SFI on her behalf. Srijan Bhattacharya, SFI state president said, “ The council had no prior information that these students were facing difficulty in appearing for their examination. We urged the council to arrange for the re-examination of these candidates.”
The council president, professor Mahua Das when contacted, however, claimed that while several candidates in the area arrived late in the exam centres, the council has no record of such huge number of candidates unable to sit for their exam at all.
“There were few examinees who arrived late and we have considered that but it is not true that these number of students were unable to sit for their exams across the district,” professor Das said.
SFI candidates said they have also contacted the state education minister Partha Chatterjee and he has assure them that he will look into the matter.
