With hardly a day left for the New Year bash, Mussoorie and its nearby hill tops are gearing up for brisk business with heavy tourist inflow as hotels have completed half their bookings in advance. According to local hoteliers, heavy rush for hotels is likely by Wednesday evening.

Hoteliers in this queen of hills are expecting brisk business this New Year’s eve while, as they have claimed, half of their properties are booked in advance. They are preparing for a high-octane New-Year bash with hotels and shops decorated with offers of special packages for the tourists. Majority of the hotels have made all the arrangements to welcome tourists with night-long music and entertainment programs on December 31.

Sanjay Aggarwal, president of the Mussoorie Hotel Association, informed the media that the hotel industry in Mussoorie is quite enthusiastic about the New Year in anticipation of a brisk business.

He said, currently, all hotels in Mussoorie are having 50 per cent of their bookings done in advance. This is expected to take a sharp rise on the last day of December as tourists from across the country are likely to make their way to Mussoorie. According to Aggarwal, while 50 per cent advance booking is being witnessed by hotels in general, star category properties are done with nearly 60 per cent advance booking.

He added that they have consulted with police officials to avoid traffic jams and additional forces are likely to be deployed in Mussoorie and other locations to ensure smooth traffic flow enroute to Mussoorie. Besides, Mussoorie Municipal Administration claimed to have ramped up preparations to welcome tourists. Mussoorie Municipal Council Executive Officer Gaurav Bhasin stated that the entire town has been decorated for the occasion and tourists coming to the queen of hills will have new feel New Year celebrations.

Meanwhile, the police have made changes in traffic routes to prevent tourists getting stuck in traffic snarls between Dehradun and Mussoorie. Circle Officer Mussoorie Manoj Oswal said additional police force will be deployed in the town. Police personnel will be stationed at all diversion points to help tourists as routes will be diverted for traffic coming from Mohand and Hardiwar directions respectively. According to Mussoorie CO If the traffic increases in the city, large buses will be parked at Kincraig and shuttle services will be taken up if need be.

Apart from local police, he said one platoon each of women and men wings of Provincial Armed Constabulary(PAC) will be deployed in the city. Besides, Aswal said, patrolling would continue late night on New Year’s eve, and strict action will be taken against unruly elements or troublemakers trying to disturb the law and order.

Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh has confirmed that routes from Dehradun will remain diverted from December 30 to December 31 to avoid long traffic jams during New Year celebrations. He said the new plan came into effect on December 30 and will remain in place till the night of December 31.

Dehradun SSP urged the residents and tourists to check the route map before leaving their homes.
