8.75 lakh Hindu Undivided Families file ITRs
The Finance Ministry has said over 8.75 lakh Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) have filed Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and claimed deductions worth Rs 3,803 crore during 2022-23.
As per government records, around 6.84-crore income tax returns were filed during FY 2017-18, compared to 5.43 crore filed during FY 2016-17
In a relief for salaried tax-payers who were jostling to file returns before July 31, the government on Thursday extended the date by a month till August 31.
There were requests from various quarters to extend the deadline. The earlier deadline for filing the returns was July 31.
The Delhi High Court had recently asked the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to accept e-filing returns without quoting an Aadhaar or Aadhaar enrollment number.
