The Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MMCCI) has urged Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to extend the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (Audit) for the Assessment Year 2025-26.
The Finance Ministry has said over 8.75 lakh Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) have filed Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and claimed deductions worth Rs 3,803 crore during 2022-23.
Over 13.44 crore unique taxpayers have logged in till 13th October, 2021.
Over 2.99 crore ITR-1 (filed by resident individuals having income less than Rs 50 lakh in a year) were filed till January 10 this year, lower than the 3.11 crore filed till September 10, 2019.
The total number includes over 2.34 crore taxpayers filing ITR-1, over 89.89 lakh filing ITR-4, over 49.72 lakh ITR-3 and over 30.36 lakh filing ITR-2.
These operations have, prima facie, led to the detection of a huge amount of undisclosed income, seizure of unaccounted assets and incriminating evidence and involvement in Benami transactions by these three groups.
The return filing utility after incorporating necessary changes shall be made available by 31st May 2020 to avail benefits for FY 2019-20, CBDT said.
