To apprise young generation about the glorious history of their villages, Haryana government has launched a new scheme under which "Gram Gaurav Patts" (Village Pride Display Boards) would be installed in every panchayat (village council) of the state.

Under the scheme, historic details of the concerned village, names of eminent personalities belonging to the concerned villages, important contribution of individual or the village itself would be written on the display board.

Such persons would include freedom fighters, war martyrs, persons martyred during terrorist attack, sports persons, philanthropists, artists, social or political leaders of national or state level who have contributed a lot in their respective field for the society.

"Most of villages have their own history, culture and eminent personalities who have made contributions to the village, state and the country. Such persons got forgotten over the years sometimes. Therefore, it is important to recognise their achievements, which can become sources of inspiration and pride for people of the village," director, Development and Panchayats, Haryana, Ashok Kumar Meena told The Statesman.

Meena further stated that a district level committee consisting of the concerned district public relations officer, professor of Hindi literature and district development and panchayats officer (DDPOs) has been constituted for the finalisation of matter to be written on these Gram Gaurav Patts.

Though, Gram Gaurav Patts would be installed in all villages of the Haryana but so far 2626 villages have been identified for this while Gaurav Gathas (Pride Stories) of 13 villages have been received from the DDPOs or the committee constituted at district level, he added.

Out of these 2626 villages, maximum number of villages have been identified in Bhiwani district with 442 Panchayats, followed by Sirsa (327), Jind (302), Hisar (268), Jhajjar (247), Fatehabad (245), Karnal (121), Rewari (118), Palwal (100), Gurugram (80), Sonipat (54), Kurukshetra (50), Mewat (50), Kaithal (48), Narnaul (37), Faridabad (33), Rohatk (27), Panipat (24), Ambala (22), Panchkula (16) and Yamunanagar (15).

So far, the amount sanctioned for these village panchayats, over Rs.8.42 Crore has already been  released while structure in 442 villages have been completed. The standard estimate for one Gram Gaurav Patt is amounting to Rs.73,800. The scheme of Gram Gaurav Patt was announced on 1 November, 2016 on the occasion of Swaran Jayanti Mahotsav (Golden Jubilee Celebration) of the state of Haryana.
