In its bid to make admission against the sports quota more transparent and scientific, some major changes have been proposed in the sports admission for the upcoming academic session (2017-18) of the Delhi University (DU).

First and foremost among the changes is the decision to do away with the 'centralised fitness test' for the sports. The fitness test would now be 'game/sports specific' and will be held along with the trials for the game at colleges itself. Further, the colleges are required to video-graph the whole event of sports selection and trial.

However as earlier, each college would be the trial centre for a particular sport. Each and every DU college is demarcated for trials of a particular type of game. The basic idea behind introducing sports specific fitness test is that fitness test cannot be same for every type of game/sport and each requires different fitness parameters. "In shooting, there is no need for judging ones athletics skills, what matters more is ones stability. Similarly, fitness parameters cannot be same for every sport. We cannot judge sportsperson's for their fitness on same parameters if they are applying for different sports," said a senior member of the admission committee on anonymity.

Another major change is increasing the weightage for the trial marks as compared to those awarded for sports certificates. Trials would now be given 60 percent weightage, while 40 percent will be for certificates. Earlier both trial and certificates carried 50 percent weightage each. Further, the trial test is divided into three sub-categories –game specific fitness test, overall playing ability and test of fundamental skills of a sportsperson.

Further, the category-wise sports certificate list would now be made available in a 'drop down' menu divided into nine heads. The aspirant will just have to choose/mark the category under which his/her sport certificate lies, and have to upload the scan copy of the same online. The verification of the uploaded certificate will also be made online by the university. Those extraordinary sportspersons who have secured position or represented India in Olympics/world championships/World Cup/Commonwealth games/ Asian games /Afro-Asian games / Asian championship / SAF games/ Paralympics games and are having certificates from International Olympics Committee (IOC)/ Olympics Council of Asia (OCA)/IOA/Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports/ National Sports Federation are eligible for 'Direct Admissions' without Sports Trial.
