Security has been beefed up and vehicle naka checkings have started throughout the state and particularly at the border and sensitive areas of the inter state and international borders since yesterday evening in light of the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

A huge number of security personnel have been deployed at the Duburdih check post in the West Bengal–Jharkhand border and vehicle naka checking has started on all vehicles entering and going out of the state. All the entry and exit points on the West Bengal-Jharkhand border in West Burdwan and Purulia districts have been put in alert and all vehicles are being frisked by police officers. Temporary police camps have been set up.

Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) sources said that on Saturday at a high level meeting of the State Intelligence Bureau’s (SIB) top officials it has been directed to all police districts and commissionerates to start conducting frisking of all Uttar Pradesh- and New Delhibound vehicles from West Bengal.

All the Superintendents of Police and Commissioners of Police have been directed to keep their forces on high alert for the D-day on 22 January and report any such untoward incident immediately to the headquarters immediately. Besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there will be over 7,000 dignitaries who will arrive from all over the world for the mega religious ceremony at Ayodhya tomorrow.

Tabs will be kept on all the activities of the leaders of all religious organisations in the state during the day, sources said. Places where truckers stay and trucks are being kept, even databases of truck drivers and their assistants entering into the state will be registered, as per the SIB directives.

Even in trains vigilance has been beefed up. Rahul Raj, Senior Security Commissioner of Asansol Division of Eastern Railways has informed that RPF escort parties have been increased in light of the 22 January programme in Ayodhya in most of the important inter state trains. RPF jawans along with a sniffer dog squad are inspecting the platforms, trains and stations on a regular basis.

The control rooms are connected with the Close Circuit Television sets (CCTV) installed in all important places of the railway stations and platforms. RPF jawans along with GRP officials are wearing body cameras during their patrolling in the railway stations under Asansol Division.
