The court has also directed him to be in police custody till June 29. Moreover, several new charges have been added to his case.
The redevelopment of the city’s iconic ghat was started in 2025 after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Kolkata port and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd.
According to police sources, the complaint was filed on Wednesday by two residents of Sarisha under the leadership of BJP leader Abhijit Das alias Bobby.
Speaking about the condition of the victim, she said, "My cousin is trapped inside. I have not received any update so far, whether he is alive or in what condition he is in."
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that the proposed legislation would target corrupt public officials, political leaders and individuals who have amassed wealth illegally.
Suvendu Adhikari said preliminary findings indicated flaws in the sanctioned design of the five-storey steel-framed structure.
The complaint was filed by a businessman from Bidhannagar who owns a hotel named "The Shovarani" who claimed that the property was forcibly acquired after paying a token amount of only Rs 50 lakh.
Expressing his regrets, Suvendu Adhikari said, "Words fail to express my sorrow for the precious lives lost in this tragedy. My deepest condolences go out to their bereaved families."
Reports indicate that the ED has obtained information suggesting that substantial amounts of money were deposited into Biswas's account in exchange for extending favours to Sona Pappu and Joy Kamdar.
