Based on the 2002 voter list, individuals whose names or those of their parents or grandparents do not appear in the updated electoral roll are being identified and called for verification. The Election Commission of India has directed that such voters must appear for the hearings with any one of the 13 prescribed identity documents as proof of Indian citizenship.

According to data released by the ECI, a total of 1,45,620 non-mapped voters have been identified in West Burdwan district, and notices have been served on all of them. These voters are required to appear at designated centres with valid documents to have their names verified and re-included in the electoral roll.
Within the district, Asansol North Assembly segment has the highest number of non-mapped voters, while Jamuria has the lowest. The Assembly-wise break-up of non-mapped voters across the nine constituencies is as follows: Asansol North – 25,354 (highest), Asansol South – 23,129, Kulti – 19,511, Raniganj – 15,711, Durgapur West – 15,140, Durgapur East – 13,979, Barabani – 13,118, Pandaveswar – 11,261, and Jamuria – 8,503 (lowest).
All identified voters must appear. Failure to appear or to submit the required documents will result in their names being excluded from the final electoral roll.
Earlier, in the draft electoral roll released after the completion of Phase I of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and the uploading of enumeration forms by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), the names of around 3.06 lakh voters were deleted from the electoral roll in West Burdwan district.
Asansol North, Asansol South and Kulti recorded the highest number of deletions. Meetings with all political parties have already been held at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Asansol Sadar, in preparation for Phase II of the SIR process and the subsequent hearings of unmapped voters called by the ECI.
