The US military launched fresh airstrikes on Iran early Thursday to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to shipping, triggering Tehran attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar in latest escalation to derail efforts to end the war.
The United States said the latest round of attacks were carried out in response to Tuesday’s assault on three cargo ships transiting the strait. US President Donald Trump recently said that the Iranian attacks signaled the end of the fragile ceasefire, Reuters reported.

CENTCOM, the US military’s Middle East command, shared on social media that they have completed an additional round of strikes against Iran to “further degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz.”
“US forces struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline. The latest strikes follow successful execution of offensive strikes in Iran the night before,” read the statement.

It further highlighted that on July 7, CENTCOM forces hit approximately 80 Iranian military targets, which included over 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats, “to impose heavy costs for Iran violating the ceasefire by attacking three commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz.”
“U.S. forces remain vigilant, lethal, and prepared to execute operations directed by the Commander in Chief,” the statement added.
According to The Associated Press, the Thursday’s attacks appeared bigger all around, with sirens sounding at least twice in Bahrain, which is home to the US Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters.
As of now, there was no immediate word of damage in the three Gulf Arab countries.
Kuwait’s Defense Ministry informed that it continued to intercept missiles and drones, while Qatar briefly issued an “elevated security threat” alert before later giving the all-clear, Reuters reported.
Iranian state media reported explosions across multiple places, including Bushehr, home to Iran’s nuclear power plant complex, as well as the southern port cities of Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Abbas and Sirik.
In Iranshahr, authorities noted that a strike killed a firefighter at an airport.
