Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that five semiconductor plants are expected to be operational in India by the end of 2026.

Vaishnaw shared that among the 12 semiconductor projects approved by the central government, three are currently in commercial production, while two more are set to be inaugurated in the coming months, IANS reported.

India’s first and second semiconductor plants were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 28 and March 31, 2026, respectively. The third CG SEMI (OSAT) facility in Sanand is currently in commercial production.

The Union Minister stated that this has significantly strengthened global confidence in the country’s semiconductor capability and reliability.

“A robust semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem is taking shape under the Prime Minister’s visionary leadership, one that will serve as the foundation for a developed India,” IANS quoted Vaishnaw as saying.

Vaishnaw credited the BJP government in Gujarat’s active cooperation and effective execution towards enabling the CG SEMI plant to move from groundbreaking to commercial production in a matter of 27 months.

Further, he has described the plant as not just a technical achievement and rather a symbol of social change.

He shared that several youth, especially women, from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, and Gujarat are finding employment as operators at the facility. Several of them even visited Malaysia for specialised training.
