Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Abhishek Banerjee faces a fresh complaint over the alleged use of unsafe security arrangements during his travel.

The complaint filed by one Rajib Sarkar claimed that security personnel deployed with the senior TMC leader are often seen standing outside the vehicle, hanging from both sides near the seat occupied by the leader.

The complaint registered at the Kalighat Police Station claimed that the practice is not only risky and dangerous for the security personnel themselves but may also pose a threat to the safety of other road users.

Sarkar claimed that such a method of travel increases the possibility of accidents and should not be permitted. He further alleged that the arrangement violates multiple provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and sought legal action against Banerjee.

The complaint specifically referred to Sections 123 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Sarkar argued that making exceptions to established legal provisions in the name of security concerns is unacceptable.

According to the complaint, existing VIP security protocols do not permit security personnel to travel by hanging outside vehicles. Sarkar alleged that despite such rules, the practice continues to be followed.

The fresh complaint from Sarkar comes after another such complaint against the Trinamool Congress leader in connection with the ‘DJ remarks’ case.

Kalighat Police Station has not issued any official statement on this matter so far.
