The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has served Trinamool Congress national general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee with a notice, directing him to provide voice samples as part of its investigation into a case alleging that he threatened Union Home Minister Amit Shah and made remarks that incited violence ahead of the recently concluded Assembly elections.
The notice follows permission granted by a court in North 24 Parganas earlier this week. The court authorised investigators to collect Banerjee’s voice samples after the CID sought approval on the basis of video footage of his alleged speech at a pre-election rally.

Voice sample collection fixed for June 30
According to sources in the state police, a CID officer personally delivered the notice at Banerjee’s Kalighat residence in south Kolkata on Wednesday night.
The voice samples are scheduled to be collected on June 30. As directed by the court, the process will take place in the presence of a judicial magistrate and forensic experts.
The Bidhannagar Court granted the CID’s request on June 23 after investigators approached it seeking permission to obtain the samples.
CID probe into alleged pre-poll remarks
The case stems from an FIR registered last month at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station. The complaint accuses Banerjee of making statements that allegedly threatened Union Home Minister Amit Shah and incited violence before the Assembly elections.
The investigation was transferred to the CID on June 11.
Earlier this month, Banerjee appeared before CID officials at the agency’s Bhabani Bhavan headquarters in Kolkata, where he was questioned for around six-and-a-half hours in connection with the same case.
Another CID investigation underway
Separately, Banerjee is also facing a CID probe over an alleged mismatch in the signatures of Trinamool Congress legislators on a resolution concerning appointments reserved for the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.
He has already been questioned twice in that investigation.
The latest development comes on the same day that a single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court declined Banerjee’s request for an expedited hearing on his plea seeking permission to travel abroad for ophthalmic treatment.
