Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added another remarkable milestone to his rapidly growing resume on Sunday, smashing the fastest fifty in List A cricket history during the India A vs Sri Lanka A Tri-Series final at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

The 15-year-old raced to his half-century in just 11 balls, breaking the previous record of a 12-ball fifty set by Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne in 2005. Opening the innings for India A, Sooryavanshi hammered five fours and five sixes to reach the landmark, registering his maiden fifty at the India A level in stunning fashion.

The left-handed opener looked set to rewrite the record books once again as he charged towards a century. However, Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige ended his explosive innings in the ninth over, dismissing him for 94 off just 29 deliveries. His breathtaking knock featured 10 fours and eight sixes and laid the foundation for India A’s strong start in the final.

Sooryavanshi’s latest heroics further underline why selectors handed him his maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I tours of Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games. Earlier this month, he became the youngest player ever selected for India’s men’s national team at 15 years and 71 days, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.

Tendulkar made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days, becoming the youngest Indian to represent the country in men’s international cricket at the time.

Whenever Sooryavanshi makes his international debut, he will eclipse that mark and become the youngest player to represent India in men’s international cricket.

Currently, Washington Sundar holds the record for India’s youngest T20I debutant, having made his first appearance in the format against Sri Lanka in 2017 at the age of 18 years and 80 days. Tendulkar, meanwhile, remains India’s youngest ODI debutant, having played against Pakistan in 1989 at 16 years and 238 days.
