Sumit Roy is currently absconding and is wanted in connection with an FIR registered at Salboni Police Station under West Midnapore District Police.
Abhishek Banerjee’s residence raided in search operation
The court order came a day after a joint team of Salboni Police Station, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Kolkata Police personnel carried out a search operation at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence at Kalighat Road in South Kolkata.
The operation was conducted in search of Roy after police tracked the last tower location of his mobile phone.
According to state police sources, when the Salboni police team moved towards Kolkata to trace Roy, the tower location showed his mobile phone at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence.
The location reportedly continued to show Roy’s mobile phone at the same place till around 2.30 am, around 30 minutes before police personnel reached the residence.
Police personnel faced resistance when they were denied entry into the residence. The security team later broke the lock at the entrance gate with the help of State Disaster Management personnel.
Following this, a three-hour raid and search operation was conducted inside the premises.
Warrant issued while Abhishek faces ED questioning
The arrest warrant against Roy was issued on Monday afternoon while Abhishek Banerjee was appearing before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office on the northern outskirts of Kolkata.
Abhishek Banerjee was facing questioning in connection with the multi-crore cash-for-school-job case in West Bengal.
