Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a major political milestone, becoming India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister after completing 4,399 days in office, marking over 12 years of leadership at the Centre. The achievement has drawn international recognition, with leaders from several countries congratulating PM Modi and highlighting his governance approach, global diplomacy and focus on India’s development journey.

PM Modi took oath as Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, and returned with a stronger mandate in 2019 before beginning his third consecutive term after the 2024 elections. The milestone places his tenure among the most significant leadership periods in India’s democratic history.

World leaders congratulate PM Modi

Leaders from across the globe extended their greetings, recognising PM Modi’s role in shaping India’s position on the global stage.

United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor praised PM Modi’s political journey, saying, “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. This achievement is a powerful testament to his decades of dedicated public service and leadership!”

Israel’s Ambassador to India Reuven Azar also extended congratulations, stating, “Congratulations Shri @narendramodi for being the longest-serving Prime Minister of Bharat!” He compared PM Modi’s leadership journey with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying both leaders transformed their countries through reforms and long-term vision.

Leadership milestone recognised worldwide

Prime Ministers and Presidents from different nations highlighted PM Modi’s governance and India’s growth story:

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated PM Modi, calling the achievement a reflection of years of public service and leadership. In a post on X, Ibrahim said, “Heartiest congratulations to PM Modi on this historic milestone of becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.” He added that the milestone reflected PM Modi’s contribution towards India’s development, prosperity and international standing.


Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Disanayaka highlighted the democratic trust behind PM Modi’s achievement, saying the milestone was “a testament not only to your years in office, but also to the trust and confidence that the people of the world’s largest democracy have repeatedly placed in your leadership.”

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu also congratulated PM Modi, saying, “Warm congratulations to His Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister by consecutive days in office.”

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape called PM Modi “a role model and an example of leadership” and praised India’s socio-economic progress. He said, “lifting over 200 million people out of poverty to a good life today is an amazing feat.”

Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar noted that under PM Modi’s leadership, India has emerged as an influential voice on global issues. Also, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said, “I warmly congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the historic milestone of becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.” He added that the achievement reflected the confidence and trust placed in PM Modi’s leadership through three consecutive mandates.

The greetings underline the international attention around PM Modi’s record-setting tenure and India’s expanding role in global affairs.
