Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Saturday alleged that a system had been established in the national capital to facilitate encroachments and illegal constructions on government land, asserting that such practices will no longer be tolerated.

During a visit to the Raghubir Nagar area on Saturday, Sirsa stated that illegal construction is a major challenge in the national capital, warning that the government will now use legal interventions to strictly crack down on the practice.

“No one would be allowed to just sit on a piece of land and claim it as their own anymore,” Sirsa said.

Sirsa said that required action had been taken against an encroachment at a community centre in the area, with the concerned department inspector issuing a notice to the violators to vacate the premises. The minister warned that anyone found violating building bylaws will no longer be spared, adding that action will be taken strictly according to the rule book.

He lashed out at those constructing unauthorised buildings with more floors than legally permitted. Sirsa asserted that irregularities that continued over the past decade will no longer be tolerated in the national capital, warning that strict action will be taken against violators.

He alleged that buildings have been constructed with more floors than legally authorised, noting that exceeding the prescribed floor limit for residential and commercial structures strictly requires clearance from the fire department.

The minister said that the law applies to every individual, and anyone who believes they are above it will face legal consequences.

Meanwhile, Sirsa reviewed the ground situation in the lanes of Raghuvir Nagar to assess the area’s condition and gather feedback on various issues.

Residents briefed the minister on the condition of roads, the cleaning of drains, water pipelines, and sewage systems. The minister gave clear-cut instructions to the officials present there to ensure there is no delay in resolving these issues.

At the same time, he directed them to submit progress reports on the ongoing work directly to him.

He asserted that resolving the public’s problems is not just a responsibility but a duty, adding that under CM Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the government works with the resolve to work “not from offices, but among the people”.
