Three alleged criminals were arrested following an exchange of fire with a Delhi Police team in South Delhi’s Pushp Vihar area on Saturday, police said.

The operation was carried out by personnel from the South Delhi district’s Special Staff and Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS). The encounter led to the detention of three suspects, although police have not yet disclosed further details about the circumstances that led to the gunfight.

In a separate development linked to anti-crime operations earlier this year, police in Greater Noida had arrested two alleged robbers after an encounter during a vehicle-checking drive conducted by the Beta-2 police team in April.

The accused were identified as Guddu, a resident of Nangla Pankhian village in Shahjahanpur, and Babu, who lives in Delhi’s Jabar Park area.

According to police, a search of the suspects led to the recovery of a bag containing stolen jewellery. Officers also seized two illegal pistols along with four live cartridges and one spent cartridge of .315 bore ammunition.

Investigators said several tools allegedly used in criminal activities were recovered from their possession. These included screwdrivers, pliers and other equipment.

Police records show that Guddu is believed to be associated with the Pankhiya gang. Authorities said he had previously been sent to jail in 2022 in connection with a robbery case involving a Navy officer that was registered under the Beta-2 police station limits.

Police have not reported any injuries in Saturday’s Pushp Vihar operation and are yet to release additional information regarding the identities and backgrounds of the three suspects arrested in the South Delhi encounter.
