Mamata agrees to Firhad’s resignation as civic body mayor: Kunal Ghosh
Mamata Banerjee gave a nod to Firhad Hakim’s proposal to resign from the mayoral post claimed by TMC leader Kunal Ghosh today.
The TMC’s decision came after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced at the state secretariat Nabanna that it was Ritabrata and Sandipan who earlier submitted a written complaint to the Speaker regarding the Assembly signature forgery case.

Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress on Monday, June 1, expelled two MLAs – Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha – for anti-party activities. The party has communicated the decision to both of them through email and WhatsApp, besides informing the West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindra Basu.
This came after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced at the state secretariat Nabanna that it was Ritabrata and Sandipan who earlier submitted a written complaint to the Speaker regarding the Assembly signature forgery case. Based on their complaints, the Assembly Secretariat filed a complaint at the Hare Street Police Station.

According to IANS, the TMC announced its decision to expel Ritabrata and Sandipan within 15 minutes after Suvendu’s press conference came to an end.
Ritabrata represents the Uluberia Purba Assembly constituency in Howrah district, while Sandipan is an MLA from Entally.
In its expulsion notice to the two MLAs, the party stated, “It has been brought to the notice of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Party through its competent authority that, despite having been elected as a candidate nominated by the AITC, you have repeatedly failed to attend meetings covened by the authorised leadership of the party and have made yourself involved in anti-party activies.”
The notice added, “It has also been observed that you have engaged in activities and made statements that are prejudicial to the interests of AITC. After due consideration of the matter, the competent authority of AITC has decided to expel you from the (primary) membership of the party with immediate effect.”

TMC officials have said that they were expelled for skipping meetings convened by party leadership, indulging in anti-party activities, and making statements against the party.
After the expulsion, Sandipan slammed the TMC and stated that the party was supporting those who do immoral things and removing those who act morally. He further stated that they did not know signing an attendance sheet would be treated as signing a resolution.
As per the rules, they will remain ‘non-party’ following their expulsion from TMC and will not be obliged to follow its whip or instructions in the Rajya Sabha elections or in any other case.
