Eid ul-Adha was celebrated across the national capital on Saturday with prayers, community gatherings and festive meals as people marked the occasion with religious observances and family celebrations.

Thousands of worshippers gathered at mosques and Eidgahs in different parts of Delhi, including Jama Masjid, Nizamuddin, Seelampur and Jamia Nagar, to offer special morning prayers. People exchanged greetings and visited relatives and friends during the day.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended greetings to the people on the occasion through a post on X. “Eid-ul-Adha greetings to all. May this blessed occasion strengthen the spirit of peace, brotherhood and compassion in our society. Wishing everyone happiness, good health and prosperity. Eid Mubarak!” she said.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu also conveyed his wishes and said, “Heartfelt greetings to all of you on Eid-ul-Azha. On this occasion, let us all come together and pray for peace, prosperity, and mutual harmony in the country.”

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also greeted people on the festival and wrote, “Eid greetings to all! May this festival bring health, happiness and wisdom in your life! Eid Mubarak.”

Extensive security, traffic management and sanitation measures were put in place by Delhi Police and civic agencies around major mosques, Eidgahs and busy market areas to ensure peaceful celebrations across the capital. Officials said cyber monitoring teams are keeping a close watch on social media platforms to curb the spread of rumours, inflammatory content or objectionable videos related to the festival.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-east) Rahul Alwal said nearly 1,100 police personnel, supported by 23 additional companies, had been deployed across the north-east district in view of the festival.

“Police deployment began from 5 am at all major namaz sites and other sensitive locations, including areas surrounding temples. Quick reaction teams, motorcycle patrol units and multiple pickets have also been stationed to ensure immediate response in case of any untoward incident,” Alwal said.

He added that coordination meetings had been held with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Jal Board and the electricity department to ensure adequate civic arrangements, including the availability of water tankers and support vehicles.

“We are making sure that animal sacrifice does not take place in open public spaces and that animal waste is disposed of properly instead of being dumped on roads or other public areas. Anyone found violating the prescribed guidelines will face strict action,” the DCP said.

The festival was observed heartily, with many organisations and local groups also distributing food and essentials among the needy in different parts of the capital.
