Lakhs of people hailing from different tribal communities across the country took out their respective processions in Delhi to reach the iconic Red Fort grounds to celebrate Birsa Munda’s 150th birth anniversary. They all took part in the Janjati Sanskriti Samagam organized by Janjati Suraksha Manch to commemorate the legacy of the freedom fighter and the messiah of the tribals and the poor.
Braving scorching heat, they marched to the Samagam’s venue, the Red Fort lawns, holding banners and traditional props while singing praises of their hero to the tune of traditional music.

Chief Ministers Vishnu Deo Sai( Chattisgarh), Mohan Charan Majhi(Odisha), and Rekha Gupta, (Delhi) were present during the conclave apart from, Janjati Suraksha Manch office bearers, reiterating the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to integrate tribal society into the mainstream of the country’s development.
Speaking on the sidelines of the conclave, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta lauded the initiative, saying Delhi is an embodiment of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” while welcoming the large number of tribal people who came to the national capital to celebrate the occasion.
Earlier in the day, members of the tribal community from across the country, dressed in traditional attire, gathered at Ajmeri Gate Chowk, Ramlila Maidan, Rajghat, Shri Shyam Giri Temple and Qudsia Park Kashmiri Gate. From there, they proceeded in colorful processions with traditional dance and music towards the Red Fort Grounds.
Before senior leaders addressed the gathering, cultural performances representing tribal communities from various states were presented on two big stages set up at the iconic Red Fort Ground with a heritage theme; children’s dance performances emerged as a special attraction.
On the main stage, Home Minister Amit Shah and the Chief Ministers were joined by senior tribal leaders including Jan Jatiya Suraksha Manch Co-Convener Rajkishore Hansda, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram President Satyendra Singh, Vice President Techi Gawin, along with Harsh Chauhan, Shantaram Siddi, Prakash Uikey, Hira Kumar Nagu, Balwant Bhai Rawat, Mahesh Bhagchandka, Kavita Raut and Budhri Tati.
Despite the heat, people kept pouring into the venue to join the celebrations. The atmosphere was filled with positive and vibrant energy. The road outside the Red Fort was thronged by people in their colorful dresses, and their enthusiasm was worth witnessing.
The organizers made elaborate arrangements, including drinking water, ORS points, coolers and public conveniences so that participants would not face any inconvenience.
The participants came from different age groups and walks of life. Despite language differences, they were able to communicate with each other with gestures and emotions, depicting rare unity.
