Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood on Wednesday said that the gathering of lakhs of people at the Red Fort to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, despite the recent bomb blast, was a powerful expression of the city’s spirit and a fitting response to the terrorists.

Sood said that lakhs of people, including President Droupadi Murmu, several Union ministers, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and members of her cabinet, paid obeisance to Guru Tegh Bahadur during the three-day event organised by the Delhi government at the Red Fort.

Adding to his statement further, he told reporters, “It is to be noted that this was the same spot where the bomb blast occurred. In the last 3 days, lakhs of people participated in that event.”

“Union HM went there, the President of the country went there, CM was there the whole time, and lakhs of people went there. This shows the spirit of Delhi, the resolve of the Government of India, and the cause for which Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji made the sacrifice – to protect his nation and to protect the heritage and culture of his nation,” the minister said.

Sood added, “People of Delhi gathered there against the insurgents and resolved to walk as per the ideals of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.”
