He further highlighted the historic nature of the performance, adding:
“Gurindervir has become the first Indian athlete to clock less than 10.10 seconds in the 100-meter race. By breaking a second national record in two days, the son of Punjab has brought glory to the state on the national and international stage. The entire Punjab takes pride in Gurindervir’s historic achievement. Heartiest congratulations and best wishes for the future,” he added.
The performance came after a fiercely contested two-day battle for the national record, with Gurindervir first clocking 10.17s in the semifinals before Animesh Kujur briefly took it back with 10.15s.
In the final, Gurindervir responded emphatically, finishing ahead of Animesh (10.20s) and Pranav Gurav (10.29s), while also going under the Athletics Federation of India’s qualification mark for major international competitions.
The breakthrough also marks a major comeback milestone for Gurindervir, who had previously spent nearly a year sidelined due to a serious health setback before returning to become India’s fastest sprinter.
