The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the refund process for NEET-UG 2026 candidates, asking students to submit their bank account details through a dedicated portal after the cancellation of the medical entrance examination earlier this month.

The decision comes at a time when thousands of students and parents across the country are still grappling with uncertainty following allegations of paper leaks and irregularities that forced the cancellation of the exam and sparked widespread protests. The examination was cancelled on May 12, prompting the Centre to announce a re-test and tighten security protocols for future exams.

In a public notice, the NTA said eligible candidates can now access the refund facility through the official NEET-UG registration portal by logging in with their credentials. The window for submission of bank details opened on May 22 and will remain active till May 27, 2026, at 11:50 pm.

“In continuation of the Public Notice dated 12.05.2026 regarding refund of examination fee for NEET (UG) candidates, the National Testing Agency (NTA) hereby informs all candidates that a dedicated facility has been made available on the NEET (UG) registration portal for submission of preferred bank account details for processing of fee refund,” the agency said in a notice posted on X.

NTA says bank details once submitted cannot be changed

The agency said candidates may upload a cancelled cheque to avoid errors in bank account information, though it clarified that the step is optional.

NTA also warned that once the details are submitted, no further modifications would be allowed.

“After submission of the details by the candidate, the same shall be treated as final, and no further changes shall be permitted thereafter,” the notice stated.

Candidates have also been advised not to initiate chargeback requests for the examination fee during the refund process.

NEET-UG re-exam scheduled for June 21

The refund process comes weeks after NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled following allegations of a coordinated paper leak. The exam, held on May 3 across 551 Indian cities and 14 international locations, was attended by more than 22 lakh aspirants.

The NEET-UG row had triggered protests across the country, with students and parents questioning how such large-scale irregularities could happen in one of India’s biggest entrance exams. Allegations of paper leaks and exam malpractice soon snowballed into a national controversy, eventually leading to multiple investigations, including a CBI probe.

After the backlash, the Union Education Ministry said the re-exam on June 21 would be conducted under tighter security. Officials have also hinted that NEET-UG could move to a computer-based format from next year in an attempt to make the exam process more secure.
