Bangladesh made history on home soil, registering their first-ever Test series win over Pakistan, completing a dominant 2-0 whitewash after a 78-run victory in the second Test in Sylhet on Wednesday.

The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side sealed the series after earlier winning the opening Test in Mirpur by 104 runs, marking a landmark moment in Bangladesh cricket history and underlining their growing stature in the longest format.

Following the historic achievement, Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman congratulated the team, praising their unity, discipline and self-belief, and expressing confidence that the success will inspire the next generation to take up sport.

Rahman extended his gratitude to the players, coaching staff and support personnel, calling the achievement a reflection of collective effort and national pride.

On the field, Pakistan were set a daunting fourth-innings target of 437 and showed resistance but were eventually bowled out for 358. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam led the charge with a match-winning 6/120, dismantling the visitors’ batting lineup on the final day.

Earlier, Bangladesh took control of the match after first-innings efforts, with wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das scoring a brilliant 126, earning Player of the Match honours.

Pakistan, despite a fighting 68 off 84 balls from Babar Azam, were restricted to 232 in their first innings as Bangladesh gained a crucial 46-run lead.

Bangladesh then strengthened their grip with a commanding 390 in the second innings, anchored by veteran Mushfiqur Rahim’s superb 137, setting up a historic series-clinching win.
