A young pregnant woman succumbed to post surgery complications on Sunday after a minor operation at the Kota Medical College Hospital on May 6 earlier this month.
According to the victim’s family and hospital sources, Shireen, who was five months pregnant, was brought to the hospital on May 6 for a routine checkup. After the checkup, she was advised to undergo minor surgery, the family accepted and gave the requisite consent. However, after the (minor) operation on May 6, the patient’s condition deteriorated. She developed urinary and blood pressure related complications. The worried kith and kin have shifted her to a private hospital, but to no vail, and they were compelled to bring her back to Medical College hospital yesterday.

Shireen’s post-surgery symptoms were more or less similar to those of four women who died following their Cesarean deliveries at the JK Lone Hospital/Medical College hospital in Kota last week.

These maternal casualties have rocked almost entire health administrative system in the state as the government has taken action against several hospital authorities, including some doctors and both the hospital superintendents.
Multipronged inquiry at the level of experts from Kota, Jaipur, AIIMS-Jodhpur and AIIMS – Delhi.
