The Rajasthan government has taken action against doctors and supporting staff for “medical negligence” in five Cesarean deliveries at a Kota hospital.

Taking exception to the cases, the government dismissed temporary appointee gynecologist Dr Shradha Upadhyay, placed another doctor, Dr Navneet Kumar, and two nursing officers Gurjeet Kaur and Neemesh Verma under suspension, an official spokesman said here.

Besides, the Ward in-charge, Prof B.L. Patidar, and Dr Neha Sehra were served with the show-cause notice.

The condition of five women deteriorated following cesarean (C-section) deliveries earlier this week. While two of them died, the condition of three others is critical; they are struggling with renal failure.

Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar has said that this is very serious case, a matter of shame for us. We wanted to air-lift the sick women for best possible treatment here in Jaipur. However, doctors have advised against this move, hence, we have sent the best team of doctors to treat the women there in Kota.

We would take stringent action against all who found guilty, the Health Minister has assured.
