The District Court at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh has ordered an FIR to be registered in the ‘Maikal Suta’ cruise boat capsize tragedy at the Bargi dam in the district a few days ago in which 13 passengers were killed.
The court took cognizance of the incident based on reports about the mishap.

According to information, Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) D.P. Sutrakar directed the Bargi Police Station to register an FIR within two days and inform the court.

The court said in its order that the cruise boat’s pilot and other crew members should be booked. It pointed out that the pilot’s irresponsible and negligent actions constituted to an attempt to commit culpable homicide under Section 106 and Section 110 of the BNS.
The court stated in its order that, to prevent such incidents, it is taking suo motu cognizance and ordering the registration of an FIR against the driver and other crew members present on the cruise vessel at the time of the incident. It also directed the Bargi police station in-charge to inform it of the registration of the FIR within two days.
Following the mishap last Thursday involving the MP Tourism Department’s (MPT) cruise boat, the MP State Government has already dismissed the boat pilot and two other crew members from service, and suspended the manager of MPT’s Maikal resort located at Bargi.
