A criminal case has been registered against Palaash Muchhal following allegations of caste-based abuse. The complaint has been filed under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The complaint was lodged by Vigyan Prakash Mane, a resident of Sangli and childhood friend of cricketer Smriti Mandhana. According to reports, Mane accused Muchhal of making casteist remarks during heated confrontation.

Police have confirmed that case includes charges under Section 3(1) of the Act along with Sections 351(2) and 352. An investigation is currently ongoing.
What happened at the toll plaza
The alleged incident reportedly took place on November 22 at toll plaza on the Sangli-Ashta road. According to Mane’s complaint, the situation escalated during an argument between the two men.
Mane claims that in the middle of this confrontation, Muchhal used caste-based slurs, language so offensive that Mane later said he could not even repeat it publicly.
The financial dispute behind the conflict
At the centre of the controversy is a financial disagreement. According to police sources and Mane’s statement, Muchhal had allegedly borrowed ₹25 lakh from him for a film production project.
Mane claims he trusted the composer, who reportedly promised to complete the film within six months. However, the project did not materialise as expected. When Mane began asking for his money back, he alleges that Muchhal avoided repayment.
The situation reached a boiling point when Mane confronted him again leading to the argument at the toll plaza.
Speaking to the media, Mane did not hold back. He accused Muchhal of betraying his trust and described him as dishonest. More importantly, he claimed that the composer’s response to a simple demand for repayment was not just evasive, but abusive and deeply offensive.
Personal life drama adds to the fallout
This controversy comes months after Muchhal’s personal life was already under intense scrutiny. His planned wedding with Smriti Mandhana, one of India’s most celebrated cricketers, was called off suddenly.
The wedding, scheduled for November 23 last year, was halted due to a medical emergency involving Mandhana’s father. Around the same time, Muchhal himself was hospitalised in Mumbai, adding to the uncertainty.
What followed was a wave of speculation. Rumours spread rapidly with some even alleging that Muchhal cheated on her.
Eventually, Muchhal addressed the situation through note on Instagram stating that he had decided to move on from the relationship. He also criticised the spread of “baseless rumours”.
