The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has made a strong mark in the Kerala Assembly elections. The party’s candidate P. K. Praveen won the Kuthuparamba seat in Kannur district, while the party lost two other seats, Kalpetta and Vadakara, by small margins.

RJD contested the poll as an ally of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala, and its victory in this seat contributed to the alliance’s performance.

RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, actively campaigned in several parts of Kerala, including Kuthuparamba, in support of LDF and RJD candidates. He held public meetings for P. K. Praveen and conducted roadshows that saw significant participation from local residents.

RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan congratulated the party’s Kerala unit.

Gagan said that the RJD contested the elections in alliance with the LDF in three constituencies, winning one seat while narrowly losing the other two, Kalpetta and Vadakara. In Kalpetta, RJD candidate P. K. Anil received 52,348 votes, while in Vadakara, M. K. Bhaskaran secured 55,255 votes. Both candidates finished in second place.

“This is a major achievement for the party. The growing attraction towards the RJD in the southern region shows that the day is not far when we will once again attain the status of a national party,” he said.
