With the BJP-led NDA all set to retain power in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that this win in the 2026 Assembly elections “illustrates the unwavering support for our Alliance’s emphasis on development and bringing a positive difference in people’s lives.”

He further lauded the efforts made by NDA workers in the state.
“I applaud all BJP-NDA Karyakartas for their round-the-clock efforts among the people of Assam. It is commendable how our Party and Alliance have grown over the last decade. Their efforts have ensured our positive agenda has struck a chord with the people,” he added.

As per the latest trends from the Election Commission of India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 59 seats and is leading in 23 others in the 126-member Assam Assembly.
BJP’s ally, the Bodoland People’s Front, has bagged seven seats and is leading in three others. Another alliance partner, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), has clinched three seats and was ahead in seven, EC data shows.
On the other hand, the Congress has bagged four seats and was ahead in 15 others, while the Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF won one seat and was leading in another constituency.
Voting for the high-stakes Assam Assembly elections 2026 was held in a single phase on April 9 and witnessed an impressive voter turnout of 85.96 per cent from an electorate of more than 2.50 crore.
Overall, 722 candidates were in the fray, including 59 women contenders. The Congress fielded the highest number of candidates at 99, followed by the BJP with 90.
