A 40-year-old rubber tapper was killed in a wild elephant attack at Karuvarakundu in Kerala’s Malappuram district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as C. Jamsheer, a native of Mullara near Karuvarakundu. He was attacked by a wild elephant early in the morning while working in a rubber plantation in the Manaliyampadam area, close to the Keralamkundu Waterfalls region.

Other workers at the site noticed the attack and managed to drive the elephant away. They rushed Jamsheer to a private hospital in Perinthalmanna; however, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, local residents staged a protest in front of forest department officials who arrived at the hospital after learning about the attack.
