The chaos began on April 9 when portions of ‘Jana Nayagan’ appeared online out of nowhere. First, the introduction scenes leaked. Then the climax. Within hours, the entire film surfaced in high definition.
The Rs 500-crore project reportedly faced widespread piracy almost immediately.
The film had already faced hurdles. It was stalled for nearly three months after objections from the Central Board of Film Certification.
Just when things seemed back on track, the leak struck. According to reports, Vijay personally assured the producers that he would “take care” of the losses.
The project, produced by KVN Productions, features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.
The timing made the situation even more explosive. The leak happened less than two weeks before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Vijay is contesting as chief of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, going up against both the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Within the industry, some voices hinted that the leak might have been a targeted attack. While no official confirmation exists, the speculation only added to the drama.
