Somy Ali, the actress who once shared a high-profile relationship with Salman Khan, has finally broken her silence. In a chat with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Somy didn’t hold back, talking about her teenage crush, the famous ultimatum, and why women often get all the blame in such love sagas.

And yes, she also opened up about feeling naive and, later, guilty.

“Sangeeta gave Salman an ultimatum”

Somy Ali took fans back to the turning point of her story with Salman. “Main Vindhyachal mein rehti thi… Salman aur main subah breakfast kar rahe the. Tab Sangeeta wahan aa gayi,” she revealed.

According to Somy, Sangeeta Bijlani walked in on them and immediately set the ultimatum: “‘Ya toh isko chuno ya mujhe chuno.’”

Somy was surprisingly diplomatic about it. “Woh unka haq tha, unhone bilkul sahi kiya,” she said. But the drama didn’t stop there. Salman had to make his choice. It ultimately led to his breakup with Sangeeta and her eventual marriage. Somy looked back at this moment as pivotal point that changed the course of all their lives.

“I didn’t feel guilty, but I do now”

When asked whether she felt guilty at the time, Somy admitted she had no clue about the gravity of her actions.

“Nahi, mujhe samajh hi nahi aa raha tha main kar kya rahi hoon,” she confessed. She added a humorous twist about the obsessive fan culture surrounding Salman. “Aap sochiye, kitni ladkiyan hongi jo Salman Khan pe marti hongi… aur kitni ladkiyan America se India aati hain unke saath rehne ke liye?”

However, with hindsight, she admits she made mistakes. “Aaj main maanta hoon ki maine galat kiya. Main literally ek relationship tod rahi thi, ek shaadi tod rahi thi,” she said.

“Why blame only women?”

Somy got philosophical about the larger narrative of blame in such controversies. “Tali do haath se bajti hai. Hum hamesha aurat ko hi kyun dosh dete hain? Aadmi ka bhi utna hi haath hota hai,” she stated firmly.

She emphasised that while women aren’t always perfect, it’s unfair to place all the blame on them.

Somy also highlighted the age gap that made her even more vulnerable. “Main 16 saal ki thi, mujhe akal nahi thi. Lekin Salman 27 ke the, unko toh akal thi,” she explained.

She recalled her mindset as a teenager navigating the whirlwind of Bollywood and forbidden love. “Main yeh soch rahi thi ki God mere saath hai aur mera sapna sach ho raha hai. Aur main bahut naive thi. Main ninth grade dropout thi, mujhe itni samajh nahi thi ki main kya kar rahi hoon,” she admitted, laughing at her own youthful confidence.

Somy also hinted that things could have turned out very differently. “Agar Salman ne Sangeeta ko nahi chhoda hota, toh main wapas chali jaati. Main 1990 mein India aayi thi, 1991 mein 16 ki hui… aur agar us waqt baat nahi banti, toh main turant wapas chali jaati,” she said.
