The Bengali entertainment world is reeling after the sudden death of popular actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, whose life was cut short in a shocking accident on the set of the TV show ‘Bholebaba Paar Karega’. What was supposed to be another routine shoot at Talsari beach turned into a nightmare. The tragedy has ignited fierce calls for accountability.

AICWA demands legal action and compensation

A day after the incident, All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) issued strong statement, calling for murder case against the makers of the show.

The association alleged gross negligence on the part of producers, production house, and broadcasting channel, stating that team had completely failed to follow basic safety protocols during the shoot.

AICWA has demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for Rahul Banerjee’s family, insisting that the amount should be recovered from the production entities.

According to AICWA, any shoot near water bodies, especially the sea, requires trained divers, rescue teams, and proper emergency arrangements. The absence of these critical measures, they argue, directly points to serious lapses by the people in charge.

The association has also called for a high-level, time-bound judicial inquiry into the matter and appealed to political figures such as Mamata Banerjee and Mohan Charan Majhi to intervene immediately. They have proposed blacklisting the producers, the production house, and the broadcasting channel, along with banning their future operations until strict safety compliance is ensured.

The incident: How it happened

According to Odisha Police, the tragedy struck around 5:30 pm during filming at Talsari beach, located near the Odisha-West Bengal border. Rahul Banerjee, along with co-actor Sweta Mishra, was shooting a scene in knee-deep water when both actors suddenly slipped into a ditch.

Crew members rushed to help, and both actors were taken to a hospital in Digha. While Sweta Mishra survived, Rahul Banerjee could not be saved.

The police revealed that the production team did not inform local authorities nor did they obtain the necessary permissions for conducting the shoot at the location.
