Amid escalating tensions and ongoing conflict in West Asia disrupting global energy supplies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday issued a stern warning against politicising issues linked to war and national interest. Addressing the 132nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, he warned that the ongoing war is already triggering concerns over petrol and diesel availability worldwide, adding that such global instability demands unity at home, not political division.

‘No place for self-serving politics’

In a sharp message, Modi said politicising matters related to national security and global crises is unacceptable. “This is a matter concerning the interests of 140 crore countrymen; there is no place for self-serving politics,” he said, urging political leaders to act responsibly during a sensitive time.

Rumours causing major harm

The Prime Minister also took aim at misinformation, saying rumour-mongers are inflicting serious damage on the country. He appealed to citizens to stay alert and avoid unverified claims. He said, “I would also appeal to all citizens to remain vigilant and not be misled by rumours. Trust only the continuous information provided by the government and take action based only on that.”

Calling the current situation challenging, Modi urged citizens to stand together and face the crisis collectively. He expressed confidence that India will overcome the situation, as it has done in the past.

“As always, I am confident that just as we have overcome past crises with the strength of our 140 crore countrymen, this time too, we will together emerge victorious from this difficult situation,” he said, highlighting that the country’s real power lies in its population.

Energy crisis looms large

Reflecting on the broader global picture, the Prime Minister said March has been marked by instability despite expectations of recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that conflicts continue to erupt in different regions, prolonging uncertainty.

Pointing to the strategic importance of the conflict-hit region, Modi said disruptions there are directly impacting global fuel markets. The situation, he noted, is creating pressure on energy availability and prices across countries.

Clear message: Stay alert, stay united

In his address, Modi reiterated the need for vigilance and unity, urging citizens to rely only on verified updates and avoid amplifying rumours.

He said, “Today, through ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ I would once again urge all my countrymen that we must unite to overcome this challenge.”
