Amid growing speculation and criticism over his delayed arrival for IPL 2026, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has clarified the situation, pushing back against what he described as “misinformed” narratives surrounding his fitness and availability.
Starc, who is contracted to play for the Delhi Capitals, has been dealing with shoulder and elbow issues, an injury he says only became fully clear after the Australian summer. His absence from the early matches sparked rumours and criticism, with questions raised about his commitment to the franchise.

“Despite the opinions and views of certain individuals with their platforms in and through the Indian media, I’m currently rehabbing and managing an injury in my shoulder and elbow of which I didn’t know the extent of during the Australian summer,” Starc said via an Instagram story. “These individuals have made some strong statements around involvement in the IPL and provided heavily misinformed opinions of players, preached them as facts, and claim to know my body better than me.”
He also acknowledged the impact of his absence on the team and fans, adding an apology to the Delhi Capitals camp.
“With that said, I do acknowledge this injury setback and that the timing is disruptive for the Delhi team. I apologise for that and to the fans for not being available for the early part of this season. I remain committed to joining DC. We are in continual communication, and I will continue doing everything I can to be available as soon as possible,” he added.

The issue also sparked a social media exchange after a fan criticised Starc for his unavailability, comparing him to other Australian pacers. The comment drew a response from his wife, former Australia cricketer Alyssa Healy, who defended him on Instagram.
“Probably because he’s injured, mate… if he can’t bowl, how’s he supposed to play? If he was fully fit, he’d be there,” she replied.
