The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday granted an interim stay on the criminal proceedings against former IPS officer Manilal Patidar pending before a trial court, until further orders.

The order was passed by a single bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar Pachauri while hearing a petition filed by the former Superintendent of Police seeking quashing of the entire trial court proceedings under Section 528 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

A case against Manilal Patidar was registered at Kotwali police station in Mahoba district on July 22, 2021. The FIR was lodged by Kulpahar Circle Officer Tej Bahadur Singh under Section 174A of the Indian Penal Code.

The High Court has directed the respondents to file their reply within two weeks. The matter will be listed for the next hearing after eight weeks.

Manilal Patidar is an accused in the murder case of crusher businessman Indrakant Tripathi in Mahoba. The former IPS officer had remained absconding for nearly two years.
