Delhi Capitals have appointed former England batter Ian Bell as assistant coach ahead of the IPL 2026 season, the franchise announced on Tuesday through its social media channels.

Bell, who represented England in 118 Tests, 161 ODIs and eight T20Is, will be part of an IPL setup for the first time in his career. While new to the league, the 42-year-old brings considerable coaching experience since retiring from professional cricket in 2020.

Post-retirement, Bell has worked across multiple levels of the game, including stints with the England Lions and England Under-19 teams. He also served as batting coach of the Sri Lankan Test side during their tour of England in 2024.

In addition, Bell was briefly involved with the New Zealand men’s team during their England tour ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup and has previously held the role of assistant coach at Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.

At Delhi Capitals, Bell will join a coaching group led by Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao, head coach Hemang Badani and bowling coach Munaf Patel.

He replaces Matthew Mott, who served as assistant coach during the 2025 season, a campaign in which the Capitals finished fifth after a strong start and narrowly missed out on a playoff spot.
