An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir today, officials said.

“Security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area following specific inputs about the presence of terrorists. During the operation, the hiding terrorists opened fire, prompting retaliatory action by the forces, leading to an encounter,” they said.
“Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot, and the area has been cordoned off to prevent the terrorists from escaping. Firing exchanges are going on in the area,” the officials added.
The armed forces have been put on high alerts in the hilly districts of Jammu division following intelligence inputs about the movement of Pakistani terrorists.
Earlier this month, a high-level meeting haired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also discussed the issue
Shah reportedly instructed forces to carry out coordinated, sustained and intelligence-backed operations to eliminate terrorists from the mountainous areas.
