According to officials, Delhi presently has over 3,500 electric buses while the charging facilities are also being upgraded across the depots to bolster operations. The Transport Department is also planning to build charging infrastructure across some more of its important depots in the near future.

Recently, Delhi had introduced intercity e-bus services, connecting places like Sonipat, Baraut and others in the neighboring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The Transport Corporation also plans to relaunch its interstate services with an extended fleet of electric buses.

Notably, the government is developing a Multi-Level Electric Bus Depot of DTC at Hari Nagar in West Delhi. Once ready, the facility will redefine working conditions of the DTC employees while providing world-class facilities for commuters, and would be capable of holding around 400 e-buses, and equipped with state-of-the-art charging infrastructure.

Last month, during her address on the occasion of the foundation stone-laying ceremony for an Automated Testing Centre for vehicles at the DTC depot located in Tekhand, the CM had claimed that within a span of just eight months, the Delhi government has made extraordinary progress in the transport sector.
