The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a tribute gathering in Prayagraj on Sunday to honour Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who have died during the ongoing Summary Revision of the electoral roll. AAP’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh, led the event.

Sanjay Singh claimed that over 25 BLOs across the country have lost their lives due to extreme work pressure and mental harassment associated with the government’s voter list verification process. He described the deaths not as natural incidents, but as “murder,” placing the blame on the Modi government and the Election Commission.

“The BJP has now reached the peak of electoral dictatorship,” Singh stated at the gathering. He alleged that the process is being rushed unnecessarily, as elections in Uttar Pradesh are still over a year away.

The senior AAP leader further claimed that communities like Muslims, Yadavs, and Kurmis are being disproportionately flagged in the verification process, raising concerns about potential vote deletions. He expressed an apprehension that nearly two crore votes could be deleted in Uttar Pradesh.

Singh demanded compensation of Rs one crore and a government job for one family member of each deceased BLO. He also called for a murder case to be filed against the Chief Election Commissioner.

The event was attended by various local AAP leaders and workers. The claims made by the AAP leader regarding the cause of the BLOs’ deaths and the motives behind the electoral process have not been independently verified.
