Friend detained by police for questioning in murder case

Bikram Ankur of Aradhya village in Suri was found dead under mysterious circumstances this morning. His body was recovered from a pond. He had been missing since last evening.

His missing mobile phone and two-wheeler were later found in the possession of his friend.

Family members have alleged that the friend murdered him. Monojit Hazra, the friend in question, has been interrogated by the police and detained at Suri police station.

On Thursday night, the family had lodged a missing diary at the local police station. This morning, some locals noticed the body floating in the pond.

Superintendent of police Amandeep said that one person has been detained and is likely to be arrested after the interrogations are completed. Sources said the accused has already confessed that the two had quarrelled over an issue while intoxicated, following which he killed him and dumped the body in the pond. The mobile phone and two-wheeler were recovered from his house by the police. Officers are verifying his statements and checking mobile tower locations.
