SS Rajamouli under fire: Complaint lodged over ‘I don’t believe in God Hanuman’ remark at ‘Varanasi’ event

The Vanara Sena organisation in Hyderabad filed a complaint against ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli claiming he hurt Hindu sentiments with his recent comments about Lord Hanuman. The controversy stems from a promotional event for his upcoming movie ‘Varanasi’, held on November 15.

The incident took place at the Globe Trotter event in Hyderabad which attracted thousands of fans from across India and abroad. Rajamouli was there to launch the teaser, reveal the film’s title, and showcase the first look of the star-studded cast including Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra.

According to police officials, the Vanara Sena lodged the complaint at Saroornagar police station on Tuesday.

“We received a complaint alleging that SS Rajamouli hurt Hindu feelings by saying, ‘I don’t believe in God Hanuman’ at the teaser launch in Ramoji Film City,” said a police representative. However, the official added that no formal case has been registered yet and that the matter is under investigation.

Reports suggest that the remark came out during a moment of technical difficulties at the event but it was enough to draw strong reactions from certain groups. Despite the controversy, the event continued.

‘Varanasi’ promises to be a major spectacle featuring Priyanka Chopra in the role of Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran will portray Kumbha. Mahesh Babu headlines the film. The film is ready for a Sankranti 2027 release.

SS Rajamouli is popular for his blockbuster epics like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’.
