In a decisive move to strengthen labour welfare in the capital, Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, focusing on the health, safety, and rights of construction workers and other labourers.

During the meeting, Mishra laid out a roadmap for several key reforms, including expanding skill development programmes across sectors, introducing certified courses to boost employability, and making on-site training mandatory. He stressed that the preparation of a concrete policy to increase death compensation for workers is a priority, ensuring that families of accident victims receive stronger financial support.

The minister also addressed the administrative side of labour welfare, urging the Labour Department to fill pending vacancies, restructure officers’ responsibilities, and speed up departmental functioning. A key focus was on the timely resolution of pending labour court cases, with Mishra insisting that every case must have a fixed timeline and be monitored regularly.

To enhance transparency, the Minister announced that the department will update its labour portal and make contact details of nodal officers public, enabling workers to seek assistance quickly and directly.

Mishra highlighted that these reforms aim not only at administrative efficiency but also at social justice, ensuring that no worker feels insecure about their rights, health, or future.

The Delhi Government intends to make every construction site a safe and dignified workplace, promoting development alongside the welfare of the city’s workforce.
