Voting for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections concluded after two phases of polling on Tuesday. The counting of votes will begin at 9 pm, and results are expected on Thursday, November 6.
A total of 9,043 students were eligible to vote in this year’s elections, which were held from 9 am to 5:30 pm, with a lunch break between 1 pm and 2:30 pm. Students cast their ballots to elect the new central panel and school councillors.

Twenty candidates are contesting for the four key positions in the central panel — president, vice-president, general secretary and joint secretary.
The elections, often seen as a microcosm of the country’s broader ideological battles, have once again drawn attention to the contest between Left Unity and the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Representing Left Unity — a coalition of AISA, SFI and DSF — are Aditi Mishra (president), Kizhakoot Gopika Babu (vice-president), Sunil Yadav (general secretary), and Danish Ali (joint secretary).
The ABVP has fielded Vikas Patel (president), Tanya Kumari (vice-president), Rajeshwar Kant Dubey (general secretary) and Anuj (joint secretary).
While the ABVP has campaigned on themes of performance and nationalism, the Left bloc has emphasized inclusion, accessibility and student welfare.
According to the election committee, women comprise around 30% of the candidates for the central panel and 25% for school councillor posts.
In last year’s elections, AISA’s Nitish Kumar was elected president, while ABVP’s Vaibhav Meena won the joint secretary post, ending a decade-long dry spell for the right-wing group and marking what many described as a “historic shift” in JNU’s campus politics.
