Fake currency notes worth Rs 16 lakh seized from madrasa

Police in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh seized fake currency notes worth nearly Rs 16 lakh from the room of an imam in a madrasa located near a mosque in a village on Sunday.

According to the police, a tipoff was received from the Maharashtra Police about the counterfeit notes. On the basis of the information, a team of the Khandwa Police reached the madrasa located in village Paithiya under the jurisdiction of the Jawad police station in Khandwa.

Upon searching, the police team recovered bundles of fake currency notes hidden inside a box from the imam’s room located on the upper floor of the madrasa. The Imam was identified as Zuber of Burhanpur in MP. He had been staying on the upper floor of the madrasa for a long time, and was serving as the imam of the mosque situated near the madrasa.

Police sources said that the tipoff was received after the Maharashtra Police arrested Zuber and an accomplice from Malegaon along with fake currency worth Rs 10 lakh a day ago. They informed the Khandwa Police about the arrest and on that basis, the Khandwa Police raided Zuber’s room in the madrasa and confiscated another Rs 16 lakh in fake currency.

Further investigations are on in the case.
