Darsheel, meanwhile, called this season a turning point. “The chaos of power is at its peak this time. My character walks right into the middle of it, and things won’t stay the same. Expect the unexpected,” he said.
Directed by Puneet Prakash and produced by Kangra Talkies, the series is created by Subhash Kapoor. Alongside Huma Qureshi, who reprises her role as the sharp and calculating Rani Bharti, the ensemble cast includes Shweta Basu Prasad, Vipin Sharma, Amit Sial, Vineet Kumar, Shardul Bhardwaj, Kani Kusruti, and Pramod Pathak.
‘Maharani’ first won attention for its portrayal of an ordinary woman suddenly thrust into Bihar’s ruthless political world. It charted Huma Qureshi’s journey from outsider to shrewd leader. Over the seasons, the show has blended gripping drama with political realism. The original season set between 1995 and 1999 mirrored real-life happenings. These include the rise of Rabri Devi, left-wing militancy, the Ranvir Sena, and a few political controversies such as the Fodder Scam.
Season 2 moved into the late 1990s and early 2000s. It explored some events like the Shilpi-Gautam murder, the influence of political strategists, and the 2000 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. The third season continued weaving fiction with reality including episodes inspired by Jitan Manjhi’s political journey.
The new season will premiere on Sony LIV from November 7.
